I offered Ahalya apple today; her 29th ingredient. I made applesauce by peeling, coring, roughly chopping and cooking an apple in a small amount of water for 10 minutes or so. Afterwards I strained and puréed it, let it cool and combined it with mango and banana puree that I had made previously.
Apples are rich in vitamins A, B1, B2 and C. They also contain minerals like iodine, phosphorous, iron and calcium that aids in the overall development of muscle tissues, skin, organs, blood and bones in children. Apples are also rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients that act against harmful chemicals and muscular degeneration in eyes. It is further believed to reduce symptoms of asthma.
An apple is a good source of dietary fiber and is sometimes used to prevent diarrhea (although applesauce can constipate your infant).
NOTE
It is said that unpeeled, raw apples are digestible to baby only after 8 months of age.
