Introducing Kangkung (Water Spinach) to Baby

The 37th ingredient I offered my baby was Kangkung or Water Spinach and she ate it with her lunch.
Although Kangkung leaves are banished to the Sri Lankan-Chinese fast food menus by many locals and is not considered a beneficial green for children, they are full of nutrients and health benefits that can help your baby develop and grow healthily. The plant not only offers high levels of protein, calcium, iron and potassium, but many vitamins too. It is also a valuable addition to your infant’s diet due to its high fiber content. These fibers alleviate and prevent constipation and indigestion in babies. The high content of Vitamin A in the leaves nourishes the eyes and promotes healthy skin. They are also full of detoxifying properties and are used to treat intestinal worms, ringworm, liver problems and jaundice. In addition, it is known to be useful in treating anaemia and boosting immunity because of its high Vitamin C content.

  1. I cooked it with the usual mix of rice, lentil, potato, chicken, coconut milk, green vege and yellow vege and mashed it well.Refer my earlier weaning posts so that you get a better understanding of how I went about it. Just follow one of the complimentary weaning tags at the bottom of the main page.
